Description
The two buildings are small-scale and located on Princess Marijkelaan. All the comforts of ground-floor living, but not the anonymity of such a large apartment building. There are 48 flats in Light and Air, spread over two charming, low buildings: in one, 22, in the other, 26 flats.
The flats have 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms and living space ranges from a pleasantly uncluttered 53 m², to a whopping 104 m2. There is also a lot to choose in terms of layout and orientation. But all have a balcony or loggia. The finishing is tasteful and the living comfort is also perfect: from the excellent insulation to the underfloor heating (with heat pump) and from the walk-in shower to the videophone system.
Light and Air stands on the edge of the Kerckebosch neighbourhood on the southeast side of Zeist, where it turns into beautiful nature. Kerckebosch is a special neighbourhood that has already won awards for best public space&most nature-inclusive neighbourhood in the Netherlands. More than 50 species of wild flowers and herbs bloom here in the verges in summer. The beautiful but modest architecture of the two low-rise blocks of Light and Air fits perfectly into this special, green environment.
The façade cladding of sturdy brick and wood is interrupted by floor-to-ceiling windows: all the flats are therefore wonderfully light. Naturally, the buildings are built as sustainably as possible & heating is provided by heat pumps & of course the kitchen is gas-free. Solar panels contribute to the home's electricity consumption.
Imagine: morning paper out, coffee on, you step back inside from your spacious balcony. Coat on, front door closed, into the lift and out.
A few metres to the left, cross over and there it is: Heidestein nature reserve. Here you walk through the forest with its characteristic pines and remnants of historic estates. Impressive are the vast heathlands: the entire Utrechtse Heuvelrug once looked like this. A flock of sheep graze the heath great for the kids to see the lambs in spring. And in winter, with a bit of luck, you can teach them to skate on the Bosmeer.
Turn right and walk towards the recently renovated Kerckebosch shopping centre. Here you can go for all your daily shopping, but also for some fun shopping with of course time in between for a delicious sandwich.
Want to go into town? The city centre is nearby. Or perhaps there is an interesting event in the stately, 17th-century Slot Zeist, once the pleasure ground of Willem Adriaan, Count of Nassau-Odijk and grandson of Prince Maurits. The beautiful English gardens are regal.
Right out of town? Zeist is very central in the Netherlands and from Kerckebosch the connections are optimal. Whether you travel by one of the neighbourhood's shared cars or still prefer to take the train (Driebergen-Zeist station is a few minutes' bike ride from your flat).
