Groenewei Meerstad is located between the neighbourhoods Meeroevers, Tersluis and the green artwork Park Meerstad. Of all the Meerstad neighbourhoods, Groenewei is closest to the city of Groningen and offers space for 350 homes and plots. It is very popular among people wanting to move to Groningen because of its location and because of the green developments taking place in and around this neighbourhood. Groenewei is rich in amenities. The district is located directly adjacent to Park Meerstad. To the east, a neighbourhood supermarket and a second primary school with childcare will be built. Bus line 5 stops every half-hour at the entrance to the district.

Befitting a cosy neighbourhood, the inner world of Groenewei consists of many green courtyards and village-like streets connected by a slow-moving traffic route. The green courtyards encourage various communal functions such as meeting and playing. Where possible, the public greenery borders the gardens of the houses and plots so that the greenery connects the residents. The largest park in Groenewei borders the self-build plot project De Groene Hoven.
