Description

Hoge Schie provides a retail plinth oriented towards Burgemeester Baumannlaan, with flats above. At the rear, deck-connected dwellings are included that skirt the retail plinth and connect to the existing development of ground-level houses. The project thus provides a smooth connection between the shopping street and the residential area behind it. The architecture is grafted onto the identity of the post-war environment and is expressed in a business-like subdued architecture, but elaborated in rich details of windows and balconies. The interior facades executed in durable Western Red Cedar enclose the roof garden on the retail plinth. Whereas the exterior facades of the building plan exude a high degree of robustness, the interior is soft and subdued. The project has housed a diverse range of shops, including a Plus and a Lidl supermarket, a Hema and a branch of the Rabobank. On Baanweg, opposite a school cluster, the public library has new premises.
