The flats, designed by architects Sjoerd Soeters, Rudy Uytenhaak, Cruz/Ortiz and Kees Christiaanse, are spread over seven quay buildings. Striking and colourful residential blocks with their own central entrance, lift and staircase. One of the seven buildings consists of senior residences and contains a communal, multifunctional space and a guest unit. There is an underground car park under the residences. In this garage, accessible by lift, residents can rent a parking space.

Java Island is part of the Oostelijk Havengebied, which further consists of Borneo, KNSM Island, Sporenburg and the Rietlanden. Renowned architect Sjoerd Soeters created the urban design for Java Island. He succeeded in his ambition to create an atmosphere where people feel comfortable. Java Island has become a much-loved residential area, with a rich mix of building styles. Its central location is ideal. On the Oostelijke Handelskade, at six minutes cycling distance, is shopping centre Brazil. Supermarkets, banks, a dry cleaner, hairdresser, baker, butcher and all kinds of other shops are located here. The centre of Amsterdam and Central Station can be reached by bike, tram 10 or bus 48 within five minutes. The A10 ring road is quickly accessible via the Piet Hein tunnel.
