The heart of the neighbourhood consists of brand-new sports facilities. It is surrounded by large and smaller buildings with courtyards, gardens, flats, family homes and excellent (neighbourhood) facilities. You can enter Laan van Spartaan from 2 sides: from the Jan van Galenstraat on the south side (3 turns into the neighbourhood) or from the north side via 1 of the 2 bridges over the Erasmusgracht (but only on foot or by bike).

There is no through traffic, only local traffic in Laan van Spartaan: nice and safe and quiet. There is plenty of liveliness, though, because there are always people playing ball, jogging or tai-chi on the green sports fields.
