Groenewei Meerstad is situated between the Meeroevers and Tersluis neighbourhoods and the green public art installation, Park Meerstad. Of all the Meerstad neighbourhoods, Groenewei is the closest to the city of Groningen and offers space for 350 homes and plots. It is very popular amongst Groningen residents looking to move, both because of its location and because of the green developments taking place in and around this neighbourhood. Groenewei boasts a wealth of amenities. The neighbourhood is situated directly next to Park Meerstad. On the eastern side, a local supermarket and a second primary school with childcare facilities are due to be built. Bus route 5 stops every half hour at the entrance to the neighbourhood.

In keeping with a friendly neighbourhood, the heart of Groenewei consists of many green open spaces and village-style streets connected by a low-traffic route. The green courtyards encourage various communal activities such as socialising and playing. Where possible, the public green spaces border the gardens of the homes and plots, so that the greenery connects the residents with one another. Groenewei’s largest park borders the ‘De Groene Hoven’ self-build plot project.
